Press Release: Lanier Health Services’
Toles
recognized as Hospital ‘Hero’
Mrs. Bettye Toles, LPN in the Nursery Unit at Lanier, stated “I am honored to be selected as a hospital hero. I don’t really see myself in that way. I just try to do my job the best I can and the only way I know how to”.

Ten area hospital employees were recently honored for their dedication to the health care field at a luncheon in Montgomery hosted by the Central Alabama Regional Hospital Council of the Alabama Hospital Association (AlaHA). The luncheon, which was one of the association’s eighth-annual statewide “Hospital Heroes” contest, recognized the accomplishments and compassion of hospital employees, and highlighted their healthcare careers.
Bettye has been a loyal employee of Lanier Health Services for 44 years. She began her nursing career at Lanier and often states that she has no intentions of working for any other organization. Co-workers agree through her longstanding compassion and dedication to her job, Ms. Toles maintains a legacy of positive impact in the lives of both hospital staff and patients. She is passionate about teaching new parents how to care for their newborns, and has enjoyed the unique opportunity of caring for multiple generations of mothers and newborns in many families.
Eve Wallace, Chief Nursing Office at Lanier commended her by saying, “Ms. Bettye is very passionate about her work and does a phenomenal job with her patient teaching. Mothers often tell stories about how Ms. Betty took care of them, and this has led to their daughters seeking care by Ms. Bettye as well”. Her astute clinical assessment skills have earned her the respect of the pediatricians on staff at Lanier. “If Ms. Bettye is on duty, then it makes my job a whole lot easier,” said Dr. Charles Casarona, Pediatrician. “I know the Nursery is better served with Ms. Bettye there and that everything is taken care of”.
Mrs. Toles is very active in the community as a leader in her local church and with local health fairs. She also volunteers to clean houses for senior citizens and regularly checks on the sick and shut-in to ensure that their health needs are met.
“Our Mission is to provide exceptional quality healthcare in a compassionate environment. Ms. Bettye does that everyday, and with a warm heart and a big smile,” stated Doug Dewberry, CEO at Lanier. “She is truly an asset to our hospital and to our community. It is my honor to recognize Ms. Bettye as our 2010 Hospital Hero”, he continued.
