WEST POINT, GA., September 27, 2006 — First Charter, MHC, parent company to CharterBank, announced last night a half million dollar contribution to Lanier Memorial Hospital to underwrite a new state of the art women’s center there. With new equipment and surgical suites, the facility, to be named the CharterBank Women’s Center, will provide the clinical and technical facilities that could improve the health and lives of women, mothers and babies in the Chattahoochee Valley area for years to come.

The newly renovated women’s center will be located on the third floor of the hospital in the area previously utilized by the Surgical Services Department, and has been designed to be an attractive, comfortable, and safe environment for women and infants. The unit will encompass 12,291 square feet, and will include a 12 crib nursery, 11 private patient rooms, two labor and delivery rooms, and a c-section room. A waiting room for family members will be located nearby. New equipment to be installed in the unit at a cost of over $600,000 will include an infant abduction prevention system and a centralized fetal-monitoring system.

Five physicians will provide primary care for the unit and include three OB-Gyns and two pediatricians. Dr. James J. Bendell, of the Women’s Center in LaGrange, and Drs. J. David Harris and Kimberly D. Fields of Women’s Health at Water’s Edge in the Medical Park will provide obstetrical and gynecological care. Care for newborns will be provided by Dr. Charles (Chuck) Casarona and Dr. Tonya Lyles. Other members of the Medical Staff are available to assist as needed.
